The newest addition to the Botlierskop Game Reserve is The Village Lodge.  Overlooking the magnificent Outeniqua Mountain Range, the lodge is set on the landmark Kleinvlei Farm, now part of this picturesue 4,200-hectare, malaria-free reserve.  The Village Lodge is located on the northern side of the Reserve, very close to the historical Friemersheim that was originally a mission station and the site of the slave quarters for Great Brak River.  The Lodge is a harmonious blend of modern and historical houses, some dating back to the 1800s. These have been lovingly restored into spacious rooms with en-suite bathrooms and contemporary country-style interiors.  The family orientated rooms  has its own entrance and patio with a garden or mountain view.

The expansive herb and vegetable gardens surround a focal dam “Watermollen” and “Perdedam” (Grootdrink of Dors) and water flows past the houses in a network of canals. Abundant fresh produce supplies the popular Bellevue Restaurant, formerly the district’s school house, were one of the last pupils of The Bellevue School in 1938 said, that Kleinvlei had one of the strongest athletics teams of all the rural schools in the area.

The lodge is child friendly and all ages are welcome,  aside from sailing paper boats in the canals, young ones will enjoy the playground, spacious lawns, sandpit, swimming pool, tadpole fishing and pony rides, while parents relax at the Botlierskop Bush Spa, take a guided bush trail or horseback safari

Bellevue Restaurant @ The Village Lodge (BOOKINGS ESSENTIAL)

Bellevue Restaurant, originally The Bellevue School and later operated as a shop is one of the highlights at The Village. One of the last pupils of The Bellevue School in 1938 said that Kleinvlei had one of the strongest athletics teams of all the rural schools in the area. The Bellevue Restaurant mostly serves an a la carte menu but occasionally does buffets and dinner barbeques upon request. The menu includes pizza, salads, sandwiches and meat dishes. Guests can enjoy a scrumptious meal or for a relaxing afternoon, come and enjoy a cocktail while watching the most amazing sunset. The Restaurant is very trendy with a Village atmosphere to please the most discerning palate, so bookings are highly recommended. The Restaurant is open to the public but limited seats are available - BOOKINGS ESSENTIAL.  Please note that the pool area is exclusively for use by accommodation guests only. Kindly note bookings essential. Open 12:00-15:00 and 19:00-22:00

The Village Accommodation

The Village has a total of 13 double rooms and 3 family units with 2 bedroom units and is ideal for families or 3 persons sharing. Each house has got a rich history from the area as well as a private entrance with a patio and parking close to the room.

Rooidoekie Pod (Standard Room)

This standard room is named after a fish species and is a one bedroom house with an en-suite bathroom with only a shower, a small lounge with 90 degree views over the Valley and is situated very close to the Restaurant.

The “Rooidoekie” fish can still be seen in the Little Brak River that flows through Kleinvlei to the Moordkuyl River (passing Botlierskop tents). This fish is extremely rare and it is claimed to have disappeared in most rivers where it previously occurred. The survival in the Little Brak River is in jeopardy as a result of pollution.

Tommie’s Inn (Luxury Rooms)

Uncle Tommie Terblanche was the last Terblanche on the farm Kleinvlei. He had a deformed foot and had difficulty walking. He was unmarried and he later stayed in the Hartebeeshuisie (Tommie's Inn) behind the main house. He was only six months old when his father, Esaias, passed away. His father was found where he hung on the stirrup of his horse after a heart attack. The rooms have a 90 degree view over the mountains and are spacious with a lounge, fireplace and en-suite bedrooms with a bath and shower.

Kasks Manor (Superior rooms)

It was bequeathed to two of Petrus Terblanche's sons in 1855. There was peace over this house until 1976, when the first new owner, after the Terblanche’s, apportioned the building and consequently a part of the building was demolished. The building was restored and renovated in 2005. Kask Manor has a 180 degree view over the Valley and consists of 1 family unit with 2 separate bedrooms and 1.5 bathrooms (ideal for a 3rd adult sharing or 2 children) as well as 2 superior rooms with en-suite bathrooms. All rooms are spacious with a lounge and fireplace.

Justice of the Peace (Superior rooms)

The first and only Peacekeeper for the area was Steven Terblanche, a son of Esaias Terblanche who lived in the Moordkuyl 38 house. Justice of the Peace is the oldest house in the Village and has a 180 degree view over the Valley and consists of 2 very spacious en-suite bedrooms with fireplaces. The house is still equipped with yellow wood floors and ceilings.

Watermill Cottage (Luxury Rooms)

Named after DE WATERMOLLEN, where the watermill were situated on Kleinvlei. The mill was bequeathed to the two sons of Petrus Terblanche in 1855. Watermill cottage consists of 2 smaller private bedrooms with a 180 degree view over the Valley, fireplace, en-suite bathrooms and small lounge.

Kathu’s Post (Superior Rooms)

Dirki Catherina was Isaiah Terblanche's wife and came from Kathu. Kathu was apparently a spying post during Dutch and English reign. Kathu was on Eilandskloof which formed part of Moordkuyl 38 but was recently established as a full-fledged farm. Other spying posts were on Hagelkraal, Mossel Bay and Klaarstroom. Kathu's Post has a 180 degree view over the Valley with 2 private and spacious bedrooms, a fireplace and en-suite bathrooms.

Old Barn Manor (2 Luxury Rooms upper floor & 2 Family rooms ground floor)

The house is overlooking the track that was part of the original farm that was awarded to Petrus Terblanche in 1814. According to custom horse races were held there and it was also used as a training field for the children of Bellevue school. One of the last pupils of The Bellevue School in 1938 said that Kleinvlei had one of the strongest athletics teams of all the rural schools in the area. The Manor consists of 2 luxury and spacious bedrooms upstairs with a fireplace and en-suite bathroom.  And the private patio overlooks the garden of the Village.

The Manor also has 2 family units with 2 bedrooms and 1 en-suite bathroom. These units are spacious and private and also ideal for families. The family units have a fireplace and lounge in the main bedroom and are Located on the ground floor. The private patio overlooks the valley and mountains of The Village.

The Village Rates

The Village has a full Restaurant serving breakfast, lunch and dinner with a bar and swimming pool. This Restaurant is child and family friendly. Daily transportation to and from Botlierskop through the Reserve is available to all Village guests. (Please book in advance at Reception). Kindly note that check-in time is at 14:00 but if your package includes lunch kindly be advised that lunch is served from 12:30, which is also the time you need to arrive at The Village Lodge to enjoy one of our mouth watering meals available on our menu. The Village Kids Activities

Children of all ages are welcome at The Village Lodge! Some of the activities that kids can enjoy include playtime in the kids playground, fun in the sandpit, the sparkling swimming pool, frog (tadpoles) fishing, guided game drives and paper boats in the canal. Kids from age 4 and older can also enjoy the luxurious kids spa at the Botlierskop Day Centre. Directions to the Village

Northern side of Botlierskop 4200 ha reserve.
From N2 take exit 409 to Great Brak River, drive 2 km and turn left onto Amy Searle Road. Go ahead for 7 km and then turn left on the gravel road Kleinvlei. 7.4 km gravel road to the Village.
